Full moons reflect the light of the sun, illuminating itself in its full glory. When the moon is fully illuminated, it’s a reminder to reflect internally. The moon has always been linked with feminine energies. This isn’t gender-based, feminine energies are our internal processes like our subconscious and how we speak to ourselves. The feminine energy is our internal world. So when the Moon is full in the sky, the Universe is asking us to look internally and be aware of our own internal processes.
Full Moons are all about releasing and letting go. The illuminated Moon shines a light so that we can look at ourselves honestly. The light is being shone in the dark. We look to the sign the Moon is in when it reaches its peak since that’s the flavor of the moon when it’s full. Since this full moon will be in Gemini this Sunday, we’ll take a look to see what the universe is asking us to reflect on during this time. But it doesn’t stop there…we’ve also got to look at the degree the moon will be in for that sign.
If you aren’t a big astrology nerd, each sign is split into three decans (every 10 degrees of the sign). The three decans are not only ruled by overall sign, they also each have their own subruler. These subrulers add an additional flavor to the energies swirling around during this transit. Astrology and Tarot are both spiritual tools for me. So when I look at the energies swirling around, the purpose is to help me better align with my highest self. It’s like the parent reminding you it’s time to complete a task. This full moon will be in Gemini and the degree will be 23, meaning the 3rd decan.
And this wouldn’t be true Tarot and Astrology combined if I didn’t throw in the Tarot flavoring 🙂 Again, Astrology tells us the psychological energies and Tarot tells us the life lessons. In Tarot, Gemini is associated with The Lovers which is all about balancing opposing Feminine and Masculine energies. We have a choice on whether we want to put the work in and work on blending those energies – or if we prefer to favor one over the other. This is important, because if we don’t work on blending the two energies together, the one that is pushed aside is the shadow side hidden from the light. Below you’ll see The Lovers Tarot Card from Weird World Tarot (I absolutely love their imagery…and I am not associated or partnered with them).

Now to the subruler. The moon will be full at 23 degrees in Gemini, meaning the moon will be full in the 3rd decan of Gemini. To give a little history, The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn was the first to assign all of the cards astrological correspondences. In their original assignments, the Golden Dawn named this card The Lord of Ruin…scary. I don’t really like the name given because I don’t think it really encompasses the meaning of this card. I’ve named this card The Lord of Painful Truths & Transformations, because when we take an honest look at ourselves there can be very painful realizations. Taking accountability means you are brave enough to claim your mistakes or poor choices despite judgement, either from yourself or others. Below you’ll see the Ten of Wands from Weird World Tarot.

Let’s recap: On Sunday (December 15, 2024), the moon will reach its peak fullness at 23 degrees in Gemini. This is a time to look at ourselves honestly and see if we are actually working on blending our Feminine (internal) and Masculine (external) energies, meaning we are examining ourselves to see if our external actions are matching our internal thoughts/beliefs/values. This will be a sensitive time since this happens in the 3rd decan of Gemini, as we will be faced with painful truths requiring possible transformations. Growth hurts, just ask any teenager dealing with growing pains.
So, how do we work with this full moon once we’ve examined ourselves? Full moons are all about letting go and releasing. If you’ve taken a good look at yourself and see there are areas where you need to put in more work, are there things holding you back? Are there self-limiting thoughts that keep you from moving forward? Dig deep, even journaling if you have to, so you can get to those painful truths. Then write down the things that are holding you back. If you really want to take it a step further, write down your list of what you want to release. Once you’ve got your list, light a black candle. Black candles are for protection, release, and banishment. Ground yourself with any number of techniques and light the list on fire. Please do this in a fire safe container or area, we don’t need anyone setting themselves or their house on fire.
Visual representations are such a powerful tool because your brain knows it needs to make changes. Your brain seeing a physical action makes the non-physical action somehow easier to move forward with. And it also goes with the theme of this full moon, making sure your Masculine (external) energies are in sync with your Feminine (internal) energies.
As always, please remember that any Horoscope or Tarot reading is for entertainment/spiritual purposes only. Please always take the advise of medical and legal professionals over entertainment/spiritual musings any time. Stay safe, and remember that we must all take accountability for our own actions even when we think something is completely one-sided. We cannot forgive or move on until we’re willing to accept our role in a matter as well….so shall it be!
